my old 60 has started making a racket when the clutch is not engaged ,
it makes a rattleing sound that is not constant but pulses, as it sits,

it does not do this all the time but is getting to be more regular, it is guiet when engaged, and is still pulling okay, but it is at the end of its adjustment range. and i know it will need new disk, but i was wondering if i should go ahead and order any other parts besides the new disk and sping set s before i tear it down

thanks for your help

It is relatively easy to tear it down and put it back together. If it were me I’d take it apart and check everything before ordering any parts. You will need to make a puller for the driver, I have a ½” plate with a hole in the center and slots on each end, it worked great for mine. Tightened it up then hit the center bolt with a hammer and the driver popped right off. Some things to watch out for, make sure the driver gets good and tight on the crank at least 1/8” before the crank is flush. When you remove the center bolt make sure the driver is sticking out past the crank, 1/8” will do but ¼” is better. Make sure to align the driver with the crank marks. May want to make sure both the driver and the crank are marked before disassembly.

I have never noticed any noise on mine but I’m careful not to let the clutch stay disengaged for more than a few seconds before I just put it in neutral and reengage.

Could be the throwout bearing. Thats whats wrong w/ my Oliver 77, and it makes grinding and rattling noises as well.
