today was the first real day or work on the vac. I have her up at the shop with hood propped open. changed the engine oil to 20w50 and flushed it. put on a new fram c159 oil filter, removing the napa 7011 it had. was pleased to see the oil stem still present, a lil bent but present. drained torque tube and refilled.. took about 1.5g oil, checked oil level in hyds, looked fine, understanad it had been cleaned and serviced just before purchase whena new seal had been installed. drained rear end / tranny.. must have have 8-9 g of oil in it .. refilled with 6.75 g of oil.. 6.5 of 85 140 ( same as tt ) and then 1/4 g of lucas hub oil. greases top and bottom points on steering pedistal, and all 3 points on clutch / brake pivots, plus fittings on steering gear.

still need to repack front wheel beairngs.

cleaned up elec conenctions in and around distrib to get hotter spark, cleaned and serviced oil bath air filter and media. inspected hood, and area a reman chevy alt will mount. picke dup a new choke knob and linkage.

measured exhaust for a flap cap.. need 2"

picke dup nason orange paint and hardner plus cream hardner for bondo.. hood has expensive pitting and will need bondo.. finally found 1 rust thru in a sid epanel I can backup and fill.. might eswap or bondo steering wheel

still need to pull fuel tank off. think it can be fixed.. etc...

all i had time for today.

between jobs yesterday, then some last night, I got the hood and side panels off, as well as the gas tank.

oil cap tube and fittings are damaged so I rounded up some more fittings and cap tube.. won't put it on till after painting... same with alternator..

still need to take nose off.. but don't look like an issue. need to repack front wheel bearings as well, then work on hood, side panels and gas tank.

gas tank is full of soapy water setting in a wheel barrow full of soapy water and purple stuff, disolvolng old varnish and removing gas so I can gring out a seam later tonight and solder the cracked seam back up.. tank looks good otherwise.

hook is pretty solid though has a couple rolled corners and some prev bondo work that was not sanded? so will need to be buffed off and a lil touch up here nad there to fix the rolled edge. one body panel ahs a dent or crease to beat out.. and one panel did end up with a couple pinholes.. so will back em up with tin and then skim coat after grinding them out..

not sure how much if any of that will get done when i get off work as I also have to hang a lamp fixture in the closet.. but will see.. :)

hopefully more pics tonight

got home from work ealy and pulled the gas tank out of the soapy water vat, wire wheeled the flange at the bottom where it joins the tank.. i can see a ban solder joint there, and a bad old reapir.

fluxed it up, and ran some plumbing solder around it... cleaned it up with the wire wheel and a red rotary disc, flipped her over and filled with water and let er' set.. no leaks...

got some more of the tin pulled off.. she's all but naked now.

cut some patches for a couple small pin holes inthe side panes and noste i found.. stitched those in.. they are now ready for bondo.

havn't even touched the hood yet.

repacked the front wheel bearings..

cleaned up the fuel tank tap and it's read you reinstall after paint and whatnot.

bought a couple quarts of perimer in anticipation for a painting day .. soon maybee..

here's a pic of the solder joint and naked tractor so far..

Nice lookin patch job there. Progress is just buzzin along for you on this one. Have her done in no time. Today was great temps for painting here. About 60 deg but don't think the 25 mph winds would have allowed too much paint to stick where it was supposed to.

You still amaze me at how fast you can get these things done!!!Looking great. Are you adding this one to the collectio or getting rid of something else?

when I work.. I work.

like if I have a morning off and have 4 hrs to work.. I'm like an ant... I get 3 things going.. like something setting in cleaner.. something drying. soemthing ready for this ort that.. then I move from job to job. if I have something that has a delay.. like bondo or primer.. I do it, then move on to another phase.. and then when that pase is ready.. revisit it.. keeping 3-4 process going means little waste time. If I hat a coplete stall.. I then go feed animals or such and hit it again..

I don't have to go to work till about 2pm tomorrow.. so may get home and bondo up the nose and side panels, and start grinding and sanding on the hood.. then tomorrow am, bondo the hood.. while it's drying.. then sand and buff the body panels and nose.. then hang and prime those. while tose are hanging and drying.. then sand and buff the hood.. then primer it. etc.. while it's drying.. then powerwash the tractor.

I just got the genny bracket today I needed.. so I can dry fit the alternator on it.. if it is good then remove it again till after painting.

monday is my target paint day so far.. unless the rear rims fight me...

as for intentions.. UM.. I really should be flipping one.

I will have about as much money into this vac as my famall C.. and both should be worth similar sales $ so guess I could sell either.. though I think myt stepdad REALLY wants me to keep the C to drive with his H... I guess.. :)

guys.. don't let ron fool ya. He's as bad as I am. He'll say he's gonna work on something later then show up the next day and will have went out tot he shop at night and finished it! heard about it too many times :) ( Of course I'm the same way.. don't know if it'sa curse or talent.. :) )

I'd also like to give a shout out to rons skill at body work. He showed me a pair of fenders that looekd like a pasta drainer... and then the next pic they had metal all welded up with smotth patches.. then the next pic a skim coat of bondo, some primer and paint.. and they looked like he'd just bought them from the reporduction shop or something :) ( for real! )
