i lost forward gears in my 706 , pulled the top cover plate thinking it was the linkage inside, what i found was the shaft that the fork for high and low range
rides on had come loose and the fork had fallen off, the shaft had slid back into the rear end and was hardly sticking our, when i tried pulling it out it slid in even further and now i cant touch it, my question now is do i have to pull the whole top cover to the rear end or can i access it by taking the brake drum off ? the hole is right there behind where the brake drum is attached, any one have any suggestions ? thanks

I doubt very much if you can get it through the brake drum hole. I think you will have to remove the top plate. Thinking about, you may be able to get it through removed PTO housing or would it be too low. ?
