Mine is currently grounded on the battery box, seems to me like it would be better grounded to the block or transmission. It's a 12 volt system with an alternator.

This one is connected where the battery box connects to the steering column. Haven't had any problems with it. 12v. w/alt. As long as its all good clean connections and decent battery cable, you shouldn't have any trouble.
