Most likely the rear differential sensor, or its associated wiring. Usually, the flashing light means some thing from the flywheel to the rear end is off or worn, but most every time Ive seen ir ir heard about it, its the sensor.

when you figure it out, let us know.

what and were is gem module it a powerstroke
mines a psd as well.. gem module is back side of the fuse box... which is about 10" to the left of your left knee, behind the emergency brake release. they are about a 500$ part.

I hope yours is something ez like the sensor mentioned. :)

thanks what does the gem module control if i disconect battery light stays off for 4 to 5 miles do you know if there is a test for it
the gem is pretty much the go between , between everything electronic in t he truck and the ECU.

and I do mena everything.

when my GEM ( generic electronic module ) went out. i had no keyless entry fob, nodome lamps, no door kick panel lamps.. dash and gaug ecluster did weird things.. doors locked and unlocked randomly. even made starting eratic.

you need a ford powerstrok specific code reader to test the truck. the generic code readers won't read any of the special code data that is manufacturer specific.

I have such a reader for my 04 powerstroke.

thanks for the help inow more know than i did and gives me some starting points factory repair cd should be here this weekwill take look at it for ideas to friend of mine has large auto wreckers may have right gem module and rear end sencer probibly can test sencer with ohm meter
i do know the 'brain boxes' generically speaking here, were different prices in different years.. and usually the older the machine, the cheaper it was.

as I said, the repalcement part for my 99 gem was like 495$ part only.. i saw the actual invoice.

I had a module changed on a 90 ford van.. it was a paltry 100$

Also.. these prices were from 1.25 ys ago.. I know things tend to sometimes get cheaper as time goes by.

I repalced the fuel pump in the tank on my 98 dodge in oh.. 02.. it was 600$ for the pump, sender and fitler assy. as was a dealer only item.. now it's widely available and half that price and can be ordered aftermarket.

funny how parts are. I replaced the fan in my powerstroke. ford fan was 400$ napa fan was 290$ I put the napa one on and it was all noisy as get out and came on and off oddly. took it back same day and put ford fan on.. much quieter...
See less See more
you have to check prices put fan belt and tensoner on last year belt from ford $50 napa $100 tensioner ford $100 napa$50 seams strange brake rotors for 07 montana napa $180 gm factory $90 white box $59 and its everywhere drawbar for 120 hp johndeere $900 a and i $180 and its lasting as long as jd did the put hole very close to back of drawbar when you disc a lot rocking motion wears hole oblong
yep.. I priced a clutch kit from ford for a mid 90's compact.... 350$ online 189$ plus reasonable shipping...
phoned ford gem mod no longer available rear end sencer $47 read on internet torque converter can do it this is going to be a nightmare and i think i have heard they have coverter problems makes me wonder why its ok for 4 or 5 miles after you disconnect battery cable
wow.. i can't believe a gem for a newer truck like a 96 isn't available????
SOMEBODY is rebuilding the GEMs, I just cant find it. I know somebody is. But I still think its the rear end sensor.
