Another problem.

I have a 1957 John deere 420w. I changed it from a 6volt positive ground to a 12 volt negative ground. When I turned on the ignition switch. The volt meter came up to 12 volts. I turned it on and off a couple of times and then it would not shut off the volt meter. Now it is getting no power to the post on the back of the switch at all. Could I have cooked the ignition switch by going to 12 volts. ? I have watched many video on changing over to 12 volts, and no one has mentioned changing the ignition switch. If anyone has any ideas or information on my problem. Please let me know. I am stumped. I appreciate any help I can get. thanks

I give up. The more I got into this problem the more confused I became. Therefor I called a mechanic. He will be here next week to end my problem. thank you all very much for the help.
Wish you were close by. I spent a career working on electrical problems. Never could troubleshoot anything from long distance. It's something I have to see up close and personal to find what's going on. Especially when wires have been moved around.

Well, the mechanic was here. He found two problems. someone had spliced two wires together and black taped them. When I was hooking up the wires to the rotary switch. I must have moved them enough that they lost contact. He fixed that, and then he was getting no power to the coil. I don't understand exactly what was wrong other than, He had to move a wire that was feeding the voltage regulator. I believe he unhooked it from the old voltage regular and hooked it to the the rotary switch. I hope that makes sense. But in all the videos I watched no one removed a wire from the voltage regular and hooked it to the switch. At least that is what I THINK he did.? Anyway, John runs just great and charges great also. Life is good again. I would like to thank everyone who tried to help.
Glad you got things sorted out. Enjoy your tractor!
