Considering this purchase, 45 A

Alright, my wife and I went and looked at this 45 A tonight. Fresh paint, very very good rubber. oil pressure is good. The clutch feels good, it's snaps in and out. Great looking tin. I took it for a spin around the guys yard. The asking price is $2950.00. I want to hear what you guys think. I was kind of in love with it and my mind went blank as far as looking at anything but the obvious. What do you guys look for when making a purchase. I didn't make any offers and in fact I want to look at another A that is for sale before I decide on one. Let me hear it.

I'd bet someone has more than three grand invested, at least if you count labor.
Very nice looking slant dash A. It is definitely worth the money. The rear tires alone are $1000. It all looks mostly correct from what I can see. Except the Monroe style seat, the genny has a voltage regulator instead of a cut out relay, and those hideous wrong circle A decals on the front. The decals used were the one size fits all type. I would redecal it with the correct ones. It is also missing the shutters, linkage, and knob at the dash. The manifold is correct being an all fuel style. The rear gas cap should be red.

Here is my early 47 Model A which is almost identical to the 45 with a few small differences. To put it into perspective, I have over $8000 in mine.

Good looking tractor.Like Dave said someone has put some money in it.
Good looking tractor and fair price.. As far as what to look for it always seems that the crankshaft end play is a big deal with the two cylinders. Kind of hard to check when you got eletric start with out taking off the covering but a simple pull and push of the flywheel can tell you a lot. You don't want a lot of play. Expensive fix :?
I'm still considering this one but I am also going to look at a 46 A later this afternoon. Based on the pics the 46 is in about the same condition as this 45 but it also has rear wheel weights. I'm excited to go look at this other one too. I also found a 52 that I would like to take a look at but that one is a couple hour drive and of course is the late styled tractor rather than the early styled. Thanks for all your input guys.
Also, Johndeerefan, your 47 is absolutely beautiful.

LOVE IT !!!!! Does not look like an $8000 A, it looks like a $1,000,000.00 A
It would go for more than that around here, probably around $3500. I suppose prices for things like antique tractors are relative to locale.

In any event, it looks like a very beautiful rebuild.
I love reading John Deere Post, because I 'm a JD lover also . Love that sound they made . Could always know which field my husband was working in by the sweet sound it made.

Should I ever get paid for some lawn mowing I have done, I will be posting a vid of my tractor barking up the hills of my town here.

First I have to finish making the holder for my tablet so I can take the vid and be able to drive.
Please get my attention when you do ,don't want to miss it . Thanks for sharing that.

My daughter drives by this tractor every day on her way to and from College. I asked her today if it was still there and she said "YES DAD, it's still there". So with that said I am going back over there this Thursday and if it is still there I am going to buy it. Cross your fingers for me that it doesn't sell in the next 2 days.
If it is suppose to be your Kevin it will be there.  :) :)

A leap of faith for sure!
I wouldn't be able to sleep!! Go now!! Post some pictures when you get it.
If you want it, dont wait anymore. If it is to be yours, you need to act now, not later, if anything ask your daughter if she sees a number so you could call.

I have the guys number and have talked with him a couple times on the phone. I am going to call him again tonight and set up an appointment for tomorrow afternoon.

Tonight we have our monthly Farm Power Club Meeting, last one before our 3 day show next month. Can't miss it.
*****UPDATE****** Breaking news.......thanks to my generous co-workers I will be taking tomorrow off from work to go purchase and pick up my new A.
