Plant Cloud Sky Wood Grass

Does anyone what this ditch would've been used for? It was found on a historic cattle ranch in Colorado from late 1800s to late 1920s. It was lined with cement and sloped downwards several feet. It seemed to be too deep to be a feeding trough and didn't extend for very long, so I didn't think it was for irrigation either. If it helps, it was found only a few meters away from the foundation of a house.

Perhaps a watering trough and a water for the house?

I'll guess sheep dip trough or storm shelter...
