I have a early 1900's Fairbanks Morse Hit & Miss engine
2hp. There is a small tank for gas to start it. A larger tank for diesel fuel.
I was wondering if I can run gas in the diesel fuel tank to run on or would that make it to hot? there are 2 large adjustment knobs on each side for the fuel adjustment. I was wondering what was the proper adjustment for each of them.

Having no up close and personal experience with a hit and miss engine, I will venture a guess and say that it was started with gas then switched to distillate, similar to kerosene, which would be in the larger tank. As far as your other questions, youtube might be your friend.

If it is anything like the old John Deere I had, you start it on gas and once it warmed up, run it on kerosene. I only ran the tractor on gas though.

Should have added above that my distillate tractors run just fine on gasoline.
