In the process of rebuilding a Z134 on my latest project. In the past I have found valve caps on the valve stems, the rocker arms contact these caps, not the valve directly. Just tore down the motor on the F40 and did not find these caps as in the past. Are the caps necessary? It would appear they would prevent the valve stem from wearing. Any help would be appreciated. Also has anyone seen these caps for sale?

These are called Rotocaps, in theory they are supposed to rotate the exhaust valves to keep the seat surfaces clean and to prevent burning, don't work quite so well in practise. Many new valves being sold now are not drilled to accept the caps. In my opinion if you have the caps or can get them fairly cheaply I would install them, if not don't worry about them.
We got some from NAPA years ago from their Sealed Power catalogue..Rotocap part# RC40A, same as used on GM trucks.
