i have a guy wants to trade a ford gas 4500 back hoe for my 285 massey anybody know anything to watch out for on these hoes

Sorry, I just found this post....I have a 4500, but it is the 201 diesel. The worst thing on mine is the steering box. It's worn pretty bad. But then, the motor is a fresh rebuild, .040 over, sleeved #3 because after we put it together there was a pinhole through the bore. Had to have #3 bored for an 1/8" sleeve, then the sleeve bored to .040. I don't know about the gassers, but the hoes themselves are a great hoe. If yours is the older loader with the two lever control, it is a bit difficult to master instead of the single control valve. Personally, I like the 4 lever hoe controls. A little difficult to get used to, but sweet once you do. How about some pictures sir ???
