I'm not trying to start a red vs. green thread because I love them both but a few days ago my cousin and I were having a conversation about our tractors and we couldn't decide if my model A was closer to his Farmall H or my uncles M. We figured the A was kind of inbetween the two. How would you guys compare the bigger Farmall and John Deere letter series row crop tractors. I could be totally off track but seems to me that none of them really match up but actually fill the gaps between the other companies tractors. The john deere model B doesn't seem to be as much tractor as the farmall H but the (late) john deere model A is a bit more tractor than the H. At the same time the A is not quite as much tractor as the farmall M, yet the M doesn't seem to be quite as much tractor as a John deere G until the Super M came out and evened things up. What do you guys think?

My neighbour has 2 JD A's and when we're ploughing together the 45M just has the edge on them with 3 14's.

I agree. His JD G, would eat the old M on the same plough, but the Super M is right up there with it, probably a little bit in front and much smoother.
His JD M on a 6ft. sickle bar mower is not as good as a Super A but on a par with the 1940 A.
The JD H is not a patch on the Farmall H.

Yeah, and really, by the time the Farmall Super series tractors were out JD was boosting their tractors as well so the G became a model 70, the A became a 60, the B became a 50, and the M became a 40.

we've got a JD B and a couple farmall H's. they seem fairly close as to evry day stuff but when it comes to pullin my H even with all the work done to it did a best of 260 ft where as the B's best pull was 314 ft. even tho im more of an IH guy i believe the JD B is a tad bit stronger tractor. but if roots run deep ill take my nuffield over all of them! lol
