Can anyone tell me anyhting about this model of mower? Are they in general a good one? What kind of HP is required to run it?

I had one, yes it is a very good machine, the best of it's peers IMO It ran easily on my 45 HP Ford. I never tried it on my 32 HP, but I'll bet it would have run it. The only reason I sold it is because my hay land is too rough and rocky with too many narrow barways.

Can you tell me about the rollers? How can I tell how much life is left in them? What else should I look for as "warning signs"? Thanks

I've got a 1209: check the connection bearing between the moving sickle bar and the gearbox pitman arm. If it is too loose you will be replacing the gearbox shortly thereafter (and you may need to weld the gearbox mounts that tear off)! The vibration and hammer will quickly kill it. I'm no expert, but if the rollers don't have any large chunks missing they should last for a long time. Also make sure the rollers adjuster nuts move, they're a bear to fix if they lock up.

The one that I know about has had to have both gearbox mounts wielded and the shims between the frame replaced. When bought it showed very little use but makes a lot of noise. So much that I keep a half around back from it with the NH haybine. I did not like the way it steers around corners and it is a pain to swing the tounge around. Look it over good and hear it run before buying.....mike
