Nybody had any experience with a 4640 or 4650 john deere powershift? farm i work for is getting new tractor to upgrade from the 4230, and since Im the one that is going to end up running it they told me to pick a deere in the 130-140hp draw bar range. What ever we get its going to be power shift, thats a givin. Not another quad range like the 4230, its been othing but troublesome. Anyways, opinions wanted

I definatly didn't like the quadrange. Tried one out in a 4630, backed it up to the house to let my wife try it out and couldn't get it out of park, had to push it backward. I know they fixed that but I never tried another. I was used to the 4020/3020 powershifts and wanted cab tractors. I ended up buying 4430's to replace the 4020's. I waited until the 4040 to replace the 3020's but kept 2 to the end. The 40 series was the best J.D. made....James

The 15 speed powershift in the 50, 55 and 60 series was a good transmission. Along with that, they have been known to blow up. And are pricy to rebuild( had to get ours rebuilt in our 4560). And the 4650 is a 1000rpm pto only. The 46 and up are a 1000 only. I would look into a 4450. Great all around tractor. Can make the same amount of power as a 4650 with a little tweak of the pump. And you have both the 540 and 1000 rpm pto. We previously owned a 4640. Great tractor but the pto was an issue because we have all 540 pto equipment. That's my .02 on the situation!
