Can I put the engine of a late model C directly on the engine stand using the 4 front pedestal mounting studs instead of mounting it from the rear? Logic says there should be no problem with supporting it self from there. What do you Allis guys do?

I wouldn't see any problem mounting it there from a strength standpoint. I might be concerned with balance with those studs being close together compared to the bell housing holes.

Thanks for the input John, I'll play it by ear and if the crank has to come out, mount it normally...but if not, I think I'll try the front mount for a change. I'm not thinking as yet that there is a main bearing issue....could always be wrong too.
