My 18yo recently bought a 1996 MF231 Tractor.


he was changing the transmission
20800
fluids and found section of a flat washer or ring in lower cover for the hydraulic strainer


thinkness=0.089 inches

any thoughts?????

It looks like a piece of a circlip that holds something in position. If the rest of the radius is in position it may retain the part it holds. Could be risky to let go without knowing but if its recessed in its position it would stay. Bit it could be a risk for a failure.. An exploded view of the tranny may help.

Those circlips are used to hold a bearing or shaft in position or both. It was probably cracked during installation.
Look where shafts meet casting walls. If you can see in there. I downloaded your photo and zoomed in. It is part of a circlip. The diameter of that one is most likely to retain a bearing.
