Mylar Decals

I have put several sets of the sticker type decals but I'm working on a tractor now that I want the more original type decals. I have heard they are harder to put on and when I looked them up all I could find was you dont soak them. Hope I can get some advice on how to and things to look out for, thanks..... mike

Got mine from steiner and they came with great directions. Had my wife help me she has more patients than me. The biggest thing was to make sure the metal was real warm. They really worked well!!!If you get them and need step by step send me a PM.

I just copied the instructions that came with mine. Someone told me to use a hairdryer after they were set while squeeged them and that worked really well.

Have the pitted area filled, sanded smooth & painted. Wash area with soap & water (new paint included) on which decal is to be placed.
FOR MYLAR DECAL: Trim to border of design where possible prior to removing white backing paper. Lightly spray the area with window cleaner (do not use window cleaner in aerosol can). Peel white backing paper from decal and place in position. Squeegee window cleaner from under decal beginning in center and working outward. If air bubbles occur, puncture with pin & smooth down.
Hope this helps.

I trim them as close as I can, spray the decal and the area Im applying to with windex, or saopy water, then as I start to peel and apply, I spary the backside of the decal too so I have a few more seconds to get it exactly wh,ere I want it, the squeagy out the rest. For real authenticity, dont trim them. Bet the factory didnt take the time to trim them! Ive gone to using more vinyl that anything, look better, IMO, and last longer.

Thanks John. Going to try and get the C painted here before next weekend and take to a show to sell. If it don't sell then I'll get decals for it.

  Didn't even notice till you said something John. Just went back and re-read it. Guess my brain is naturally goofy cause I understood it just fine :?
I guess I have been using the mylar type decals and its the vinyl ones I have never used. I have heard they look better but are harder to put on and they are higher in price. It will be a month or so before I'm ready, still cleaning parts and prep work to paint.....mike
I use the magnet strips found inside the rubbersealer around newer refrigerator doors as a locator and straight edge which can be removed once decal is in place without leaving a mark on the paint! Works great!!!

Great idea - - Thanks. Maybe even the rolls of magnetic strip you can buy and the local hardware or dollar type store.

You probably just answered a question Ive had about this long magnetic strip Dad had in the building. Didnt have the heart to trow it out, Id be willing to bet thats what it is, and what he used it for!!
