We have split this tractor for engine O/H and replacement of the main clutch & T/A clutch. We assembled the T/A according to the service manual and now question proper function. With the T/A clutch engaged, the main transmission shaft will turn only 1 direction, counter clockwise but not clockwise (as you're sitting on the tractor). Is this correct or do I have a problem? Thanks for the help!

You are good ! the shaft is fitted with a ramp that works as a brake thats part of the function of the TA.

And if that TA is right. when tractor is in operation and when pushing clutch down while headed up grade (in gear ) the tractor should rock rearward then stop .

yep, should be fine.keep that in mind when driving any tractor with the mechanical ta. they free wheel going dowhill in a forward gear. that freewheeling will destroy the bearings in the ramp notools is talking about. in fact that is usually what is wrong with most these old Farmalls that have a bad ta in them nothing wrong with the design. most are ruined due to operator problems I have never worn out any of my TAs so far. I have brought a couple old tractors home with bad TAs in them, b ut I didn't ruin them
