Has anyone ever changed the sickle drive belt on a N.H. Haybine... specifically a 488, but as far as I know the only difference is the width in the 4XX models. I discovered a big crack amongst all the smaller ones about all the way through the rubber when I finished my last cutting this week. Though it doesn't appear to be real recant. There's no doubt that I might have overlooked it before. Anyway, my specific question by looking at the parts diagram and assembled machine I'm a bit confused. Does the shaft split where the four bolts are at the chain sprockets, or does it have to come loose from the bearing on the inside of the machine to replace the belt? If it splits, I won't need to find extra hands.
