Well, taking on a big project, have a oliver that the engine is about shot and is near impossible to get the replacement flat parts for... so we just figured we would swap it for another engine. Looks like it will be quite a project but ill post updates.

Tractor, starting to tear down...

Here is the replacement engine...

yes its a fiat engine, Diesel parts are all over the net however cant seem to find anything on the gas fiat, so we got this GM Industrial V6. The 1250 should be making 90hp when the pto is at 540, were not too woried about hurting anything because were not really going to be on it hard ever.

Today engine got pulled ill upload the pics :D

Yea this shouldnt be too bad only hard part will be the new plates to mount the engine, far as the flywheel were just mounting both together as one so it should all work the same, were working on the plates tomorrow, Wish us luck! haha

The Oliver/Cockshutt 1250 Gas used a military surplus engine. Contrary to the usual practise of making military equipment exceedingly tough and durable, the 116 cubic inch engines used in the 1250 Gassers were anything but. Engine, ignition, induction, and electrical system problems abound, and the parts aren't available to address them. The Gas models should never have been built.

the above is a direct quote from the parts guru on fiat tractors, the 1250a,s on the other hand where built with 3 cylinder diesels and they are great little tractors

but a 1250 with a gm v6 would be a fun tractor to play with

That WILL be a project, I'm sure. Wasn't the 1250's engine made in Italy by Fiat ?? I thought I'd read somewhere where all the '50' series tractors had Fiat in them.
If that's right, maybe that's why parts are hard to find. Keep us posted.
only the utility tractors where fiat, fiat built and many different tractor companies sold the small utility tractors, (Oliver, Moline, White, Heston, Allis Chalmers,)the oliver 1250,1355,1365 utility series are all fiat, the row crops starting at the 1550,1555 are all us built oliver designs

there are good fiats and bad ones the 1250 gassers with the 4 cylinders are junk, if you find one for sale figure scrap value and that is about it,

here is a great resource for the fiat tractors and an honest opinion on the different models

this 42 year old 1355 has over 10000 hours and the only thing that has been replaced is 1 clutch and a set of thrust washers in the front end,

it has been used hard but not abused, and that is the key to long life in any tractor, it pulls the 3x14s with ease and is very stingy on fuel
