I worked those 2 seals into the grooves to the point where I couldn't imagine that they could not be seated in that damn groove. Now, protuding out of the grooves of each half of the retainer are like about 3/16"! I think I have to do some trimming. What do you think?
Yes, you will need to trim leaving 1/8" protruding. We used to soak the seals in engine oil for 24hrs prior, then roll them in using something like ahammer handle, use sealant between the 2 halves and also behind the plates where they bolt to the block and oil pan, tighten the 2 long bolts on sides of housing first.
