People at work some how discovered I was collection old tractors. Many times they would tell me about a rusty hunk of junk they would seein the winter when the leaves were off the trees and bushes. About half the time it was a newer jap tractor or some thing from East Eroupe.
One of the guys was a farmer on the side and knew tractors. He came over to where I was working on his break and told me a old fellow down the road from him had sat his two ponies out by the road with for sale signs on them. Kare had been bugging me about finding one and fixing it up and giving it to my dad. That week end Kare and I went to see them, One had sold with a front blade and a plow. The other was missing some parts, only came with a plow and cuttvators. Being Oct Kare and I decided we/I could have it all done by fathers day and give it to dad.
We got it home and our daughter sort of fell for it. She helped me a lot sanding on it for the paint I would apply when it got warm in the spring. She even got the stuff in the slots of the front wheels all sanded to bare metal. While all this was going on I was searching for a Model 33 like one of my uncles owned. Seemed like they were really a rare thing around the area of Michigan I roamed which was a lot.
Then one day I had a envlope in the mail from My brother in law that had a auction sale bill for a few tractors. One was a model 33 and a pony too.
The sale was a couple weeks away in March. I told Kare I would go and buy both Masseys if the prices ended up right and I could have my own Pony.
When I got the sale site Kare and I went to look at the 33 first as I wanted it bad and had seen ponies a lot near home. After looking the 33 over we went to the pony for a look see. There was this old skinny fart crawling all over that tractor with this look in his eye he planed on owning it before the day was done.Yes it was my dad and he did buy that Pony, or should I say he stole it.I couldn't believe no one wanted the cute little tractor with a plow and a little mini buzz rig on the back run off the PTO.
So need less to say I never did give a pony to my dad. He had a lot of fun with the thing the last ten years of his life. He was taking it to all sorts of shows and wouldtalk the arm off any one who would listen about his pony and his crazy sons collection of 4 then.
First rubber tired tractor my dad bought brand new in 1949 was a Pony. He made a bunch of money with it doing gardens in the two towns we lived near then.
