Would anyone know if the pto shaft and clutch assembly on a John Deere #5 sickle bar mower will work on a #8 mower. Any info would be helpful. I have the #8 mower but the pto shaft is repairable but also have a complete shaft off a #5

Take a look at the diagram and description below.

Note the shortest length of the square shaft is 18 inches.

Note the longest length of the shaft and yoke assembly is 16-5/8 inches.

also have a complete shaft off a #5

If the square shaft (Key 18) from the No. 5 mower will fit inside the tube and yoke assembly (Key 13) of the No. 8 mower, then adjust the length as necessary of the square shaft (Key 18) from the No. 5 mower.
