These pics were posted last year on the old ATF under different topics and provide a summary of displays at the 2011 Colfax Persimmon Festival. The Festival will be held this year on Nov. 3.

I remember when you posted this Jim. Thanks for reposting. I really enjoyed the pics especially the tobacco stick mill. That is still the only one I have ever seen. One of these days when Melinda and I retire I think it would be fun to travel around and go to local festivals. This one is one I would like to see and maybe get some of that bread and pudding.

Now Jim, I guarantee some of that pumpkin bread would have come back to Missouri if I'd been there !!!! I can almost smell it from here right now....

I've never heard of a tobacco stick mill. Is that its single function ?

....Gordon, want some company in your festival travels....????

Like Gordon, that was the first stick mill I have ever seen. When I was a youngun, every tobacco farmer I knew had plenty of sticks and I don't ever recall ever seeing any sawed. Lots of pine sticks were often split by hand from a log section. Most sticks were 52 or 56 inches long. I have sawed poplar, oak, and pine sticks, a stack about 5 feet high by 10 feet long. Farmers would also have a supply of splinter-free, smoothed sticks on which to hang tied hands of tobacco to haul to market. The tobacco could easily be slid off the sticks for packing in a tobacco basket for display and sale at the warehouse.
