Sunday was the most glorious day here so we went to our favourite seaside town of Whitby. Quaint how they built the fishermens houses into the hillside..

and there's always the old Abbey ruins and church 199 steps to the top

snickleways to be explored

and street entertainers to watch

It would be a neat place to visit and looks like it was a complicated design and engineering feat to get such a large number of homes in such a small space. Thanks for posting. :D

Beautiful, picturesque town. :D I would have loved seeing the Abby in it's heyday. ;)

Thanks so much for the photos Shelley, brings back memories of my younger days.
I was in Whitby in the early 60's, unfortunately my car broke down and we had to catch the bus and train home ;)

I watch Heartbeat and they are always mentioning Whitby, I thought it was a fictitious place like Aidensfield.
Nice pictures thanks for setting me straight.

Beautiful pictures! I'm always fascinated by places that I'll likely never see in my life...

How old is the Abbey?
