Very unique from the other J-Ds of the time. Pictures seem to indicate a pretty decent condition.

John Deere Model LA

"anyone have any idea about the year of this tractor?"

Reviewed the JOHN DEERE TRACTOR DATA BOOK under the John Deere Model LA section Comments topic on page 82.

The first Model LA was built August 2, 1940.

The last Model LA was built August 1, 1946.

Take a look at the diagrams below.

Note the complete magneto (Key 54) end cap where the spark plug cables are inserted.

If the magneto has this "style" end cap, then it was installed on tractors serial numbers 1001 through 4532.

These tractors were made from 1941 through late 1942.

Take a look at the diagrams below.

Note the magneto cover (Key65) where the spark plug cables are inserted.

If the magneto has this "style" cover, then it was installed on tractors serial numbers 4533 through 13475.

These tractors were made from late 1942 through 1946.

"Possible price in it's current condition (it did run right up until my grandpa got sick so probably hasn't been started in over a year)?"

If the tractor is running, then the asking price range would be approximately $2000-$2500 here in NE Texas.

Last Summer there was a Model LA listed for sale at $2500 just 15 miles from our farm.
